Earlier this year, Ian set off on an epic adventure to climb Mount Kilimanjaro to raise money for Lionsraw charity. I’m An Adviser caught up with Ian after he’d made it safely back down to find out about this once in a lifetime experience.
Ian had this say:
“The trip was truly a once in a lifetime experience. I've always wanted to do Kilimanjaro, and it really did take my breath away – literally! It was all worth it to look down from the summit and see some of the most spectacular views imaginable.
“It was worth it in a different sense, too. The money raised will provide hundreds of children in deprived areas with a safe learning environment, crucial meals and sanitation; a legacy which will live on through thriving communities.
“Lionsraw, established in 2004, mobilises football fans at major international tournaments, giving something back to the local communities. Dedicated volunteers build schools, orphanages and vital facilities, helping to provide education, nutrition, sanitation and safe spaces for thousands of children across the globe.
“Thanks to all of you who donated towards my Kilimanjaro trek in aid of Lionsraw. With your help and generosity, we raised over £1,700 for a fantastic cause, building schools and public buildings in deprived communities across the world, including South Africa.
“Everyone at Wades have been as supportive as ever, agreeing to donate a further £1,000 to the fundraiser, taking the total beyond the £2,700 mark. Thanks again to all of you who donated and passed on well wishes – we couldn't have done it with you!
“As they say, there's no rest for the wicked. Just a month after climbing Kilimanjaro, members of my team and I took part in the Great North Run, raising money and awareness for another cause that is close to my heart - the Marie Curie hospice in Elswick.”
Well done on all your fundraising efforts Ian, we can’t wait to see what you take on next!
