Helen West, West Financial Management
When we started to talk to advisers about some of their non-advising activities, we were take a back at some of the things people do, whether it was an unusual hobby, or the great work that advisers are doing for charity. Then we spoke to Helen from West Financial Management and were literally blown away with the amount of work she does for charity.
We asked Helen to give us a quick summary in her own words…
As a 20 year member of million dollar round table (MDRT), I have embraced the whole person concept by living a balanced life, this involves giving back to your community and world. MDRT is an organisation that is recognised internationally as a standard of excellence in life insurance and financial services business. In fact the founder of Simply Biz Ken Davy regularly attends the annual meeting and supports this organisation.
I enjoy being an active number and work with MDRTs charitable foundation. At this year‘s annual meeting, I helped with seed packing in conjunction with The Hunger Project which aims to eliminate hunger by 2030.
I have been an active member of rotary for about 9 years now. Rotary unites more than 1 million people to take action for world change across the globe in our communities and in ourselves. I can recommend becoming involved. There is such a wide selection of things you can do locally and around the world.
As an active member of Mutley Baptist Church I have become to learn about and involved with a charity called SAHODAR. I have been fortunate enough to visit this country and this hospital twice. They are doing amazing things in their community With little money, not unlike our NHS system!
That’s not all…
I am keen to keep fit so exercise regularly. I have just purchased a new bike and have an ambition to cycle from Lands end to John O’Groats in 2021. I plan on raising some funds for charity when I do this.
I am also a Trustee on the board at the local YMCA in Plymouth.
